Belgium capped a terrific performance at the U16 European Championship Division B with a gold-medal game victory over Montenegro on Sunday.

Both sides had already clinched promotion by reaching the Final in Bucharest and the country that joined them in next season's Division A was Sweden, who blew out Hungary 79-55 earlier in the day in the battle for third place.

Ludvig Hakanson had 23 points and 11 assists for the Swedes, who raced into a 29-16 lead by end of the first quarter and never turned back.

Belgium had only scraped a 50-48 triumph over Hungary to earn a place in the title game but they were more convincing against Montenegro in winning 56-46.

The Montenegrins were last in front 34-33 midway through the second quarter when lay-ups by Gil Vanthournout and Sami Demirtas put them in front to stay.

The basket by Demirtas was his last and it took him to 15 points in the game.

He also had six steals.

Rayan Kayembe-Milongo led Belgium with 19 points on seven of 14 shooting.

Belgium only had a 44-41 advantage after a shot by Zoran Nikolic for Montenegro.

Kayembe-Milongo answered with a three-ball and a lay-up to stretch the Belgium lead to eight and they held on.

Bosnia and Herzegovina beat Israel to fifth place after outscoring them 22-11 in the fourth quarter of a 71-65 victory.

Ivo Garic had 15 points for the winners while Tamir Blatt poured in 19 in defeat.

Kristijan Nikolov scored 32 points for F.Y.R. of Macedonia as they clinched seventh place with a 70-56 win over Portugal.

The Netherlands prevailed 71-63 over Belarus to finish ninth.

Yannick Franke poured in 26 points for the Dutch.

Finland routed Georgia, 89-48, to come in 11th and Denmark won convincingly over Romania, 91-67, to end up 13th.

Bulgaria scraped a 63-62 victory over Switzerland to finish 15th and the Slovak Republic romped to an 84-45 win over Norway to come in 19th place.
